Driving the Future of Mobility

In 2013, the University of Michigan announced plans to launch an advanced mobility research center. U-M created Mcity to bring together the diverse expertise and resources required to realize the potential of emerging mobility technologies, and their commercial and economic viability.

What Makes Mcity Unique

As a public-private partnership, our partners in industry, government, and academia are Mcity’s foundation.

Mcity offers early-stage testing and deployment, funding for a wide range of mobility research and data collection, and a commitment to education and outreach.

Our model is working. Today, Mcity has established itself as a trusted leader in mobility innovation.

As we look to the future we will expand on this legacy of innovation.

  • Continue to provide a forum for discussion, problem-solving, and common ground not only on technical issues, but also on how mobility technology impacts society
  • Deepen our focus on mobility access and equity
  • Expand the collection and use of data from our world-class test facility and on-road deployments to guide new mobility solutions
  • Seek interdisciplinary research opportunities across the U-M campus
  • Develop advanced educational opportunities for students to secure their entry into the mobility workforce
